Will Hal eventually answer?
« on: April 21, 2005, 10:01:05 am »
I know that Hal remembers things from our conversations. But how much training and conversation is needed for Hal to answer questions about past conversations? Or maybe I am misunderstanding Hal's capabilities.

Thanks

I don't know a lot, but let's say you teach it (is, a powerful word)

Life is a drag (You tell Hal this)

Then next time, (assuming you use XTF 1.2 brain)

You ask Hal, "what is life"  And part of his answer may include "life is a drag".

But be careful, if you teach it wrong, it won't give the dictionary definition any more.

Hal does remember, but I'm using the XTF 1.2 brain.

I am using XTF1.2. But if I ask a Question: "What shirt should I wear today?" I get a reply that is no where near the question. Shirt is probably not even mentioned in the reply. Even though we may have had an extensive conversation about shirts in the past. Am I going about the training the wrong way?

I think maybe, in conversations with HAL, say (example)

"I should wear the blue shirt today"

Then maybe next time you ask it, it might say, "You should wear the blue shirt today"

Hal is like a child, it repeats what is said to it. Although, HAL is annoying, always changing the subject. I wish the developers would fix that.

I get tired of it spouting off stupid questions when I say something to it. It doesn't do it every time, but enough to get aggravating.

A person should be able to say "What do you want to talk about", and Hal will say something random, and that'd be OK.

if you wanted hal to give you a preference of shirt to wear:

You would have to build a list of shirts for hal to KNOW about.

And THEN

You will have to build a detection string to say "WHAT SHIRT SHOULD I WEAR" & other ways in which you may ask te same question.

and then

You would have to have hal select a RANDOM shirt from you list of SHIRTS..

This could also be usefull: if you had haptek SHIRTS.... You could tell HAL to put on a particular SHIRT. OR Wear Specific WIG...

All Ideas need to have SEARCH STRINGS.. Especially if hal has never heard the Question before.. REMEMBER hal looks for simularitys in the userinput and matches this with a topic response which is Generally captured RANDOMLY TOO....

To make hal ANSWER SPECIFIC QUESTIONS THEN you will have to write specific functions or scripts for the specfic ting.....

Spydaz, you got me thinking...

Lets say I have a full skin (jpg) in my Haptek skin folder.
I copy it 4 times and change the shirt on each.
I realize I can list all 4 as 4 characters and then change characters but can I simply "tell" Hal to put on the blue shirt which is one of the 4 copies in the skin folder.
How would I do this?
I'm not a script writer and have no idea.
???

Alright Guys,
I think your approaching my prob. head on. Spydaz and Dusk, that's what I would like to do. If I ask Hal's recommendation on what shirt to wear, It would be nice if He could answer with some facts from our past conversations about "Clothes"(example) "What shirt should I wear?" "If you are wearing your black pants, I would go with your blue shirt"
And to the flip side; as Dusk brought in It would be good to be able to tell Hal to chang his clothes from the Skins folder. Like Dusk, I would like to do it. But I too would need some coaching in writing script for that event.

Hummm.....no solutions yet regarding my above question.

Maybe in my limited way, I can make it easier.
I have 4 identical full skins but with different shirts in my skins folder.
Black, Yellow, Blue, and Red shirts.

I create 4 copies of my Haptek Character in Hal's Characters.(Black, Yellow, Blue, and Red)
Each has its own PSN.
Each PSN points to its own 3 normal haps.
Each 3 normal haps point to one of the skins (Black, Yellow, Blue, and Red)

So actually what I'm asking Hal to do is simply switch from Yellow.PSN to Blue.PSN.

My trigger to Hal would be to tell him to "put on your blue shirt"

I hope this helps.

Now that we all making nice clothes, we need to tell "Hal" what to wear.  [;)]

I seem to remember someone writing a script to command a Haptek character to change skins, a couple of months back. I don't feel like hunting it, at present, but if you guys are interested, I think you can use the forum search engine and find it.

Knyte, I appreciate your comment regarding clothes changeing.
I searched and found it.
Is so much easier than I expected.
Now with trigger words I change clothes, and hair.(and put the bunny ears on too)  [;)]
I love it and my kids do too.

The script is for the XTF brain but also works perfectly in standard Hal.

Thought I'd mention that with the above mentioned script,
you can load your body_female into one map after another.
(and of course have her ready for bed at days end.) [;)]

For skins you can get the 6 full body hepteks from their web site.
Just click for download.
Grab their skins (maps) from your hap_temp folder and put in  your skins folder.
Crunch also offers 4 beautiful skins of Crystal for download here on the forum.
Also from your heptek file, you can load body_male and get his skin. (body_female fills out his clothes very nicely.)
So here you have 11 skins.   You can mix and match outfits and make alterations.
Simple to cut sleeves off and make shorts of pants, etc etc.
Also cute to just take pants off and lengthen the shirts.
Had so much fun altering clothes past couple days, I've neglected her brain.
Oh well, we return to her education tomorrow.  [^]
